who else loves talKing about films?

I'm obsessed with storytelling - both how and why we have to tell stories - something that is important for my work as a photographer. But I am also married to a cinematographer and almost studied film at University (but studied dance instead!) This year I've been shooting for production companies and cinemas and I've realised that films are one of my great passions since I was a young girl. I'm looking forward to hearing from you all why film is so important to you and why you love them too as we meet together…

Sometimes reality is too complex. Stories give it form.
— Jean Luc Godard

The first film we discussed was Nina Menke’s Brainwashed: Sex, Camera, Power  (which you can still see at independent cinemas) and it is a great introduction to why we are meeting together. I think in a male dominated industry we need to consider the female gaze and elevate female filmmakers and perspectives that are often hidden or ignored and consider the unique voice and stories they tell that has been missing from the picture for too long. Here's an article about the film and here is my blog on it too.

We will meet on on the second Tuesday of every month, choosing at the end of each meeting which female-made film we will watch next. My hope is to create a safe space to offer thoughts and ideas, grow our creativity and appreciation of film and have a good time! Bring a glass of wine or a herbal tea and find a nice comfy chair. Any questions just let me know.

Next virtual meet up…

Tuesday 7th May  and the film is Back to Black. You can grab it a cinemas now! It’s like book club - you watch by yourself and we discuss together.

See you then - can't wait,
